Meredith Marks Revives the Black-Eye Fight on WWHL, Saying Heather Gay Lied About It for Two Years

Meredith Marks used her Watch What Happens Live appearance on Wednesday, October 14 — hours after The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City's latest episode aired — to run down what each of her castmates needs to be called out for. When the rundown reached Heather Gay, per Bravo's official summary of the segment, the entry was the oldest open wound in this cast: Meredith shaded Heather for lying about her black eye for two years. The lying charge is Meredith's, and this story attributes it to her throughout. What follows is the full record it lands on.

Why This Landed Now

The shade did not arrive in a vacuum. Ten days earlier, on October 5, former Bravo producer Patrick McDonald reignited the subject on the Bravo While Black podcast. As reported by Reality Blurb and Reality Tea, McDonald called Heather's handling of the black eye “one of the most reckless things that any housewife has ever done,” said she had lost “any credibility” as a narrator, and said she should have been fired over it — that it should have “cost her her snowflake.” That is McDonald's opinion, reported here as his.

Meredith and Heather are also Season 7 castmates in an active feud, so the Clubhouse call-out was a move inside a live fight, not a history lecture. And it is not a charge Meredith invented for the aftershow — she has pressed it before, on the record, as this story lays out below.

The Night in San Diego

The black eye dates to the Season 3 cast trip to San Diego, in December 2022. Heather Gay, Jen Shah, Meredith Marks and Angie Katsanevas were in Heather's room until about 4 a.m. The next morning, Heather revealed a black eye — swollen and blackened — along with scratches on her arms and back, showing it first to Jen Shah. Cameras did not capture whatever happened.

On camera, Heather said she did not know how it had happened and did not want anyone to get in trouble — and she asked Jen to help her come up with a cover story. Bravo investigated; at the Season 3 reunion, Andy Cohen said the network's internal investigation found no additional footage from that night.

What Heather Said Then — and What She Said a Season Later

At the Season 3 reunion in January 2023, pressed by the cast and by Cohen, Heather held to not knowing: “I don't know how I got the black eye. I blacked out.” She called the situation humiliating and said embarrassment — including Mormon shame about drinking — drove her evasiveness. She also acknowledged that if she had known Jen did it, she would have covered it up, while insisting that was not what happened.

Theories were voiced on the show itself. Whitney Rose, in a confessional, hypothesized that Heather was covering for Jen Shah to protect her ahead of Shah's federal fraud trial. Cohen himself, on WWHL during the Season 3 cycle, said of Jen's involvement: “Well, we think so.” Shah denied it then, through a representative, and has denied causing the injury consistently ever since.

A season later, Heather's account changed. In the Season 4 finale, during the Reality Von Tease confrontation, she said on camera that Jen Shah gave her the black eye — that she had defended Jen and taken heat “for the fact that she gave me a black eye,” and that “I had to lie for her.” At the Season 4 reunion's third part, she added that Jen was the first person she texted, that Jen came to the room and asked, “Did I give that to you?” and that she answered, “Don't worry, I'll cover.” She said she covered because she was “scared of her.” Production aired never-before-seen footage of the two discussing the black eye. Shah still denied causing it.

That is where the record stands, and this story states it in exactly those terms: the cause of the injury has never been established by anything beyond Heather's account, and Shah disputes it. BC News asserts neither side.

The Book Meant to Close It

Heather devoted a chapter of her second book, Good Time Girl, released December 3, 2024, to the black eye. Promoting it, she told Us Weekly she had been scared about what it would mean if Jen had caused it intentionally, and embarrassed — that she had drunk so much she could not remember getting hurt, and that she had ridden so hard for a woman who did not deserve it. She said she wanted to “put black eye to bed.”

Meredith's Own History With the Charge

Meredith's seat in this history is older than the feud. She was in the room the morning the eye was revealed, and when Andy Cohen asked her on WWHL during the Season 3 cycle how she thought Heather got it, she refused to answer — joking that, as a licensed lawyer, she had been appointed as “Miss Gay's counsel” and the matter was “privileged.”

During Season 6, Meredith said in a scene that Heather had lied, then walked it back in the moment — and it became Heather's grievance against her for the season. Afterwards, on the Two Ts in a Pod podcast, Meredith owned the fuller version in her own words:

“We know she lied about a black eye for years.”
— Meredith Marks, on Two Ts in a Pod, as reported by CheatSheet (January 2026). These are her earlier words, not a quote from the WWHL segment.

In that same podcast appearance, she added that Heather “got a lot of people in a lot of trouble because of it,” and that in retrospect she should have doubled down. Wednesday's Clubhouse moment is that position, restated on Bravo's own stage.

What would change this story: Heather answering it. If she responds — on the show, in the press, or on social — that is an update to this story, and BC News will carry it here.
