Editorial Standards
How BC News checks what it publishes, how it labels what it thinks, and how it fixes what it gets wrong.
BC News reports the story. Brough Chat debates it. The audience delivers the verdict.
What BC News Covers
BC News covers significant reality-TV news on its own merits — the Real Housewives franchises, Bravo, Love & Marriage: Huntsville, Belle Collective, and related shows — whether or not Brough Chat has debated the story. A Brough Chat debate tie-in is never a requirement for coverage. Where a story connects back to the show, THE FAMILY VERDICT is the bridge: readers deliver their verdict on the debate platform, and BC News reports the result.
Labels: Exclusive & Breaking
Two labels carry a promise, and BC News only uses them when the promise is true:
- EXCLUSIVE — reserved for BC News's and Brough Chat's own original reporting or interview material: our interviews, our reporting, our transcripts. A story another outlet reported first is never labeled Exclusive here, however BC News covers it.
- BREAKING — reserved for a development verified within the hour, from a primary source or from two independent credible sources. A story carrying the Breaking label shows its verification timestamp on the story itself, so readers can see when it was confirmed.
Credit Where It's Due
When another outlet broke a story, BC News credits that outlet by name, with a link, and adds its own original context and analysis on top. BC News never presents another outlet's scoop as its own reporting.
Verification Standard
Every fact in a BC News article must trace to a source: a Brough Chat video, transcript, or site record, or a credible cited outlet. Articles link their sources in a Sources section so readers can check the work themselves. If a claim cannot be traced, it does not run as fact.
Top Stories Rule
Top Stories are fact-checked before publication, carry linked sources, and add original reporting, context, or analysis from Brough Chat — never a bare rewrite of someone else's story. Verified facts and Brough Chat's own view are kept clearly apart and labeled:
- Verified Fact — a claim traced to a cited source.
- Brough Chat Analysis — the panel's take, context, or opinion. Opinion is never dressed up as reporting.
- Unconfirmed — speculation, rumor, or a claim still being checked. Confirmed reporting and speculation are distinguished visually and verbally in every article that contains both: the labels above appear in the article itself, not just on this page.
Rumors
Unverified claims are labeled Unconfirmed in plain view, or they are dropped from the story entirely. BC News does not present a rumor as a settled fact, and casting or production talk is always attributed to whoever is doing the talking.
Corrections Policy
When BC News gets something wrong, the error is corrected in place, in the same article, with a dated correction note in the article explaining what changed. Articles are not silently rewritten.
To request a correction, email broughchat@gmail.com with the article link and what you believe is wrong. See the Contact page for all contact routes.
One Voting System, One Poll Record
BC News and the Brough Chat homepage reference the same poll record for every vote. Moving a vote into The Family Votes archive never resets its votes, member selections, or results. Older polls stay open unless Brough Chat closes them, and a closed poll keeps its final results on display. Vote counts are read from the live record — BC News does not publish invented or hard-coded totals.
Imagery
BC News uses real Brough Chat video thumbnails and CSS-branded graphics. It does not use AI-generated imagery of real people, and it does not use stock photos presented as real people or real events.
Authorship
Launch articles carry a byline and a publication date. Every article is reviewed and approved before it publishes — nothing on BC News auto-publishes.
