K. Michelle. 'Jesus & Whiskey' opened at No. 6 on the iTunes country albums chart shown in her release-morning post — and climbed to No. 3 within the first hours.

K. Michelle put out her first country album today, and the fans met her at the door — then pushed her up the chart. In a release-morning post on her Instagram story, Jesus & Whiskey opened at No. 6 on the iTunes country albums chart — behind Zach Bryan at No. 1 and Wynonna at No. 4, with Miranda Lambert below her at No. 7. Within the first hours, her follow-up Instagram post showed it at No. 3 — only Zach Bryan and Emily Ann Roberts still ahead of her. Chart tracker kworb had the album at No. 11 on the U.S. iTunes albums chart overall. She was told for years she couldn't sing country. On day one, country bought the album anyway.

The Chart, Stated Plain

Three things about those numbers, so nobody twists them. First, the No. 6: that is from her own story post on release morning — the iTunes country chart with her song “Yodel” playing over it, Emily Ann Roberts at No. 2, Ella Langley at No. 3, Riley Green at No. 5. Second, the No. 3: that is from her own follow-up post within the first hours — her caption read “JESUS&WHISKEY IS OUT NOW #3,” and only Zach Bryan and Emily Ann Roberts were still ahead of her. Both country numbers are her posts, reported as her posts — no independent tracker publishes the genre chart, so BC News does not present either as independently confirmed. Third, the No. 11 overall is from kworb, an independent chart tracker. And none of these numbers is Billboard — those charts do not exist yet this week.

Who She Is

She is a current cast member on The Real Housewives of Atlanta — Season 17 — and she previewed songs from this album in the season finale. Before that, years as a star on Love & Hip Hop Atlanta. R&B built her name: her debut, Rebellious Soul, opened at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in 2013, and five more charting R&B albums followed. So here is the question: is she an R&B star trying country on — or a country singer who had to take the long way home?

The Long Way Home

Born in Memphis, she grew up on Mary J. Blige and Whitney Houston alongside The Judds and Lee Ann Womack. Her mother put her in yodeling lessons as a kid, and she yodeled at her Florida A&M audition and won a music scholarship. Nashville has seen her before: she sang at the CMA Awards in 2023, with Jelly Roll, on The Judds' “Love Can Build a Bridge,” and she made her CMA Fest Nissan Stadium debut in 2025, singing “Jack Daniel's.” That is not a costume. That is a history.

“I'm not an artist doing a country album. I'm a country artist.”

The Album

Jesus & Whiskey is her seventh studio album and her first country album, out today, Friday, October 16, 2026. She signed with BBR Music Group in 2024. Kristian Bush of Sugarland produced it — a live band in Nashville, heavy on the steel guitar. Nine songs, and she co-wrote eight of the nine. Three of them came early: “Jack Daniel's” in the summer of 2025, the title track on July 30, and “Yodel” last month — the same “Yodel” playing under her release-day story.

What She Was Up Against

She has said the quiet part out loud for years. “Being a Tennessee girl, [country] is my first genre of choice, and I was always told because of other reasons, I couldn't sing that,” she told People. “When it came down to it, I am a country singer.” On the Atlanta finale, she called herself an underdog and said putting out “a country album that people laughed at me about” is a moment she won't take for granted. The numbers show why it was a fight: The Tennessean reports that songs by Black artists averaged 1.16% of country radio airplay, from a 2025 survey by University of Ottawa professor Jada Watson. Country radio barely plays her.

Release Weekend, Then the Take

She is not sitting home watching the chart. It is Jesus & Whiskey Weekend: The Fillmore New Orleans tonight, House of Blues Dallas on Saturday, House of Blues Houston on Sunday — and fans who buy the album at the show get meet-and-greet access. One morning on iTunes is one morning — charts move. But nobody handed her that spot. A girl from Memphis yodeled her way to a scholarship, got told no by a whole genre, and climbed to No. 3 on its country chart on release day. Now it's the Family's turn to call it.

Sources & Verification

The chart positions: the No. 6 spot on the iTunes country albums chart comes from K. Michelle's own Instagram story on release morning, Friday, October 16, 2026 — the screenshot is shown in this article and credited to @kmichellemusic. The No. 3 spot comes from her follow-up Instagram post within the first hours of release day (caption: “JESUS&WHISKEY IS OUT NOW #3”) — that screenshot is also shown here, credited the same way. Both are her posts, reported as her posts; no independent tracker publishes the country genre position, so BC News does not present either number as independently confirmed. The No. 11 position on the U.S. iTunes albums chart overall is from chart tracker kworb.net, read October 16, 2026. iTunes charts move hour to hour, so all three positions are release-day snapshots. None is a Billboard position — no Billboard chart for this album exists yet.

The album: title, release date, label (Real Outlawz under exclusive license to BBR Music Group), producer Kristian Bush, the nine-song track list, and her eight co-writes are from MusicRow's album report and The Tennessean's release-day feature (October 16, 2026), checked against Apple Music. The three singles and their order — “Jack Daniel's” (summer 2025), “Jesus & Whiskey” (July 30, 2026), “Yodel” (September 2026) — are from The Tennessean, People, and That Grape Juice.

Her words: the “first genre of choice” quote and “I am a country singer” are K. Michelle to People (July 2026). “I'm not an artist doing a country album. I'm a country artist” is her line from the same People interview. Her underdog remarks on the Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 17 finale are via Bravo TV. Her Memphis upbringing, the yodeling lessons, and the Florida A&M scholarship are from People, The Tennessean, and her BBR Music Group biography; the 2023 CMA Awards performance with Jelly Roll and the 2025 CMA Fest Nissan Stadium debut are from the same biography. No source read by BC News reports a Grand Ole Opry appearance, and this article does not claim one.

The radio number: the 1.16% figure — the average share of country radio airplay for songs by Black artists — is reported by The Tennessean from a 2025 survey by University of Ottawa professor Jada Watson. The release-weekend shows are from BBR Music Group's announcement (October 7, 2026).
